Gran Canaria is the third biggest island in the Spanish Canary Islands. The climate varies greatly from north to south. It is rainier and much greener in the north, and warmer with less vegetation in the south.

Almost 60 kilometres of Gran Canaria’s 236 kilometres of coast are beaches of some kind. The beaches vary with black lava sand, desert sand from the Sahara or white coral sand imported from the West Indies.
