Croatia’s second-biggest city Split is a historic mecca. Here you’ll find the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s magnificent palace, which has been rebuilt and extended over the centuries since the Roman Period.
Before you visit the palace, don´t forget to stop at the tourist information and get a map, as the palace is like a gigantic historic maze, you will need it.

Most of the beaches consist of cliffs or stone, and Croatia therefore offers fantastic, crystal-clear water. To make it easier to take a swim, there are jetties and swimming platforms everywhere along the coast.
The centre of Split also has a port promenade, locally known as Riva. It has lots of restaurants, bars and entertainment. The port is a stone’s throw from the promenade, and from here, you can take ferries out to the biggest islands.
